MICHIGAN FUNERAL DIERCTORS ASSOCIATION 134TH ANNUAL CONVENTION – MGM GRAND, DETROIT, MI 5-15-13

When we think of dying the last thing that we want to think about is making money. For some, this is a way of life. Just like there is a business in being born there is a business built around dying. We had a chance to catch up with our friend Director of Funeral Operations at Ira Kaufman Funeral Home David Techner and visit the Michigan Funeral Directors Association 134th Annual Convention in Detroit to gain some insight into this misunderstood world.

At this gathering hosted by the MFDA we also spoke with Phil Douma, the Executive Director of the organization, who provided us with a behind the scenes look at just what the industry of dying is all about. In doing so we were able to see, not how sad and depressing losing a loved one is, but about ways to remember and cherish their lives. The convention featured more than just caskets and hearses. There were keepsakes, financial planning, and more. We documented David as he came upon new discoveries for his forty year old business as well.

We are very thankful to everyone who helped today and look forward to continuing the journey of creating, “The Embrace of Dying – How we deal with the end of life."
